US widens sanctions list on Ukrainian conflict, adds Russian bank
MOSCOW, Mar 11 (PRIME) -- The U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday added Russian National Commercial Bank and the Eurasian Youth Union, and 14 Ukrainian individuals to the sanctions list.
Russian National Commercial Bank was one of the first Russian banks to start operating in Crimea since it became part of the country in March 2014. The bank was owned by the Bank of Moscow until the accession of Crimea, and then it was acquired by the local government. Later, the E.U. blacklisted the bank for its participation in the Ukrainian political crisis. Crimea recently sold the bank to Complex Energy Solutions.
The Eurasian Youth Union has been actively recruiting individuals with military and combat experience to fight in Ukraine, the treasury department said.
The Ukrainian individuals on the expanded list include former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov and top officials of the self-proclaimed Donetsk republic.
